emmah. is the creative practice of Rotterdam-based artist and designer Emma Hoogstede.

The landscape paintings in this growing series are inspired by places encountered while travelling, both close to home and further away. Each painting begins with a photograph of a landscape that caught Emma’s eye along the way.

Working within a clear set of boundaries, every landscape is painted in acrylic on A5 paper. Starting with a coloured background and building the painting on top of it, allowing the underlying colour to blend with and shine through the layers that follow.

Together, the paintings form a colourful travel journal: a collection of places and memories worth holding on to. Whether inspired by Emma’s own travels or a place meaningful to someone else, each piece is an original, hand-painted work that brings a place worth remembering into your home.
